Key Formation

• Noun A + より + Noun B + のほうが

  りんごよりバナナのほうが好きです。 (I like bananas more than apples.)

• Verb A (present/future) + より + Verb B (present/future) + のほうが

  勉強するより遊ぶのほうが楽しいです。 (Playing is more enjoyable than studying.)

  - Both より ~ のほうが (yori ~ no hou ga) and ほど (hodo) are used to compare two items. However, より ~ のほうが (yori ~ no hou ga) is used to express 'more than' or 'less than,' while ほど (hodo) is used to express 'to the extent of' or 'as much as.'
• よりも (yorimo) - (N5)
  - より ~ のほうが (yori ~ no hou ga) and よりも (yorimo) both express a comparison between two items. However, より ~ のほうが (yori ~ no hou ga) is used to express 'more than' or 'less than,' whereas よりも (yorimo) is used to express a less definite comparison, meaning 'even,' 'more,' or 'than.'
• くらい (kurai) - (N5)
